Ignoring Renewables - Selling Farms – No Manufacturing – Australian Governments pitiful record

Australia was once a reasonably self-sufficient Nation who prided itself on quality products which were sought after internationally because of our high standards and regulations.

Both Governments, the Liberal and the Labor Parties gave away our Manufacturing-Industry, and they are now Selling-the-Farms and everything else to anyone.

Chinese Companies cannot do business without the Chinese Government owning a 50% stake in them, and the Chinese Government can take over the entire Company anytime they feel like it.

The Chinese, and other Governments are buying up Australia while the Australian Governments who are supposed to represent and protect their community, sit on their hands and allow it to happen at a shockingly rapid rate.

Australia must stop selling the Farms, the Land, the Industries, the Ports and every other bloody thing it has, and rebuild our manufacturing sector.

We need to bring back our Manufacturing sector, which will power the nation’s recovery to ensure our country has enough essential supplies to manage the present crisis and provide the productive capacity that’s needed to rebuild and rejuvenate our economy once the Covid-19-Virus is contained.

The abundance of renewable energy Australia has, and is capable of producing, means the manufacturing revival could also help in the fight against climate change.

Leading Economist Professor Ross Garnaut, and Centre for Future Work senior Economist Alison Pennington both agree that Australia should use its comparative advantage in renewables to power a sustainable revival of manufacturing.

Economist Alison Pennington said “A focus on services-led growth had gutted the nation’s manufacturing capacity and left it highly dependent on imports”.

“Crawling out from this dangerous era of primary commodities dependence is more urgent than ever,” said Ms Pennington, referring to a Harvard University study that ranked Australia 93rd of 100 countries for export complexity.

Renewable energy production gives Australia the advantage to grow it’s manufacturing sector based on high wages and green credentials.

Australia’s fixation and over-reliance on mining means the country is ill prepared for the future.

Australia has lost more than 200,000 manufacturing jobs since 2008, with many of the remaining positions (912,500) held in lower value-added sub-sectors such as food manufacturing.

Ms Pennington said government must lead the industry towards a more prosperous and sustainable future and I like many Australians agree with her!
